Ahwatukee Homes for Sale

Ahwatukee Homes For Sale - Luxury Homes For Sale in Ahwatukee

Ahwatukee Homes For Sale -  Phoenix is home to the Ahwatukee community.  In 1971, a portion of the land was purchased by the Presley Development Company (uncle to the legendary Elvis Presley) and was developed into a residential community.  As the population grew, more land was acquired from the state of Arizona, International Harvester (who used the land as a proving ground), and private citizens.  At one time, a portion of Ahwatukee was a junk yard.  Hundreds of wrecked cars lined a portion of land west of I-10.  Ahwatukee today is an affluent L-shaped community bordered on the south by the Gila River Indian Reservation, on the east by Interstate 10 including Chandler, Guadalupe and Tempe, and to the north by South Mountain Park.  It has a population of about 90,000 and although its formal address is Phoenix, because of the isolation from the capital and 15 other suburbs it is always referred to as Ahwatukee. Ahwatukee Luxury Homes For Sale
Homes for Sale in Ahwatukee can be found in zip codes 85044, 85045, and 85048.  Access in and out of Ahwatukee was slow in developing.  At one point it was known as the "World's Largest Cul-de-sac" because early on there was only one way in and out.  That was at Elliott Rd. and I-10.  As the community grew, freeway ramps were built at Warner Rd. followed by Ray Rd., Chandler Blvd., and finally, Pecos Rd.  Today, Ahwatukee is one of the safest and most well maintained communities in the Phoenix Metro Area.  It is only 20 minutes from the Phoenix International Airport, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, Chandler Fashion Square, Arizona State University, Tempe Diablo Stadium - a favorite spring training facility, and Chandler Regional Hospital.  Within 40 minutes you can be at the HoHoKam Stadium - home of the Chicago Cubs spring training, the Diamondback's Baseball Stadium, US Airways Center - home of the Phoenix Suns basketball team, downtown Phoenix, and not too far from the University of Phoenix Stadium - home of the Phoenix Cardinal's.  There are many hospitals to choose from - Gilbert Mercy, Banner Desert, St. Lukes, or Banner Samaritan Hospitals. The
neighborhoods and communities within Ahwatukee are wonderful places for raising
a family or finding the good life in the retirement years.  It is a common site to see joggers &
cyclists and many take advantage of the hiking and mountain biking trails in
the South Mountain Preserve.

The schools in Ahwatukee are renowned for student achievements in sports and
academic, and fine arts accomplishments.  In fact, Desert Vista and Mountain Point High Schools (Tempe Union High School District) had the most Merit Scholars in the state of Arizona!  The middle schools and elementary schools (Kyrene School District) all have state-of-the-art facilities.

There are several shopping centers & theatres; the largest shopping mall in the southeast valley is
just 5 - 10 miles away; freeways are easily accessed & the airport is within 20 minutes of most residences.  Ahwatukee has one of the lowest crime rates in the entire valley.
